I am just about to start painting the alpine Fallschirmjager sniper figure at 1/20 scale. I can paint the jacket no problem, but I need a little advise on what colour to paint his trousers, field Gary or luff blue. Any advise would be welcome

Cheers

Hi Wellington, The jump trousers were field grey (various shades of). Only the ordinary Luftwaffe long trousers, breeches etc were Luft blue. Cheers Karl

I am afraid that the answer to your question will not be straight Field Grey or Field Blue. It depends on the time and theatre of operations you choose. The nature of sniper business requires concealment so in general you can not go wrong when going with a Field Grey tone. The jump trousers nevertheless were issued also in Field Blue which is different from the "Luftwaffe blue"..
See picture below from 1941 (Crete or Greece)

Martin, so what colour in the vallejo range should one use on the trousers

Hi,
I just visited my "bunker" and found that the banderole from the paint bottle you asked for has disappeared! But I painted some Fallschirmjäger so here we go:
I recommend vallejo grey blue (should be no 61) but would add some green grey or fieldgrey that you get a slight greenish tint.
Hope that helps!
Cheers, Martin
