I know absolutely nothing about mediaeval combat or sword fighting and perhaps the fighting stance is based upon an illustration or acknowledged technique, however, the pose just looks so uncomfortably unnatural. The right arm looks twisted into a completely unnatural pose. As sad as it sounds, I've just tried to recreate it myself and haven't got a chance of getting my arm at that angle and that's whilst wearing a sweatshirt and not a suit of armour.

As I said, it may well be copied from a mediaeval fighting manuscript or similar but even then, you can't base old drawings on being anatomically correct as mediaeval artists would have had a variable eye for details or getting anatomy correct just like people do today.

Others may disagree and irrespective, at least with 'Altores' you know you will be getting a quality figure and with perfect QC.

Indeed. There's a particular "on guard" stance that the medieval "fight books" say never to adopt, as it makes you too slow to react. Guess what it is.

Thank you for the informed feedback. I thought it may be taken from something like the Talhoffer Manuscripts or something; of which many stances and techniques illustrated therein still elude modern sword experts and historians alike today. As you say (and myself from an uniformed perspective) I cannot think of any advantage or purpose in combat that such a pose as this would serve...?

Few can do a 3D sculpt as good as Vladimir Sychev.

Oda.

No one is doubting the quality of this or any 'Altores' product Oda ( of which I have numerous in 54 and 75mm), but if something doesn't look right or natural, then it is difficult for it to 'grow' on you. An excellent cast and a high QC product does not compensate for an awkward looking figure; certainly not for me anyway.

Ultimately, other figure painters will make their own purchasing decision (or not) where this or any product is involved.

Thank you, my frend!
Any job does not have to be liked by absolutely everyone.
About the warrior.
A position for protection or for a quick stabbing blow on top of the shield.

You are both absolutely correct.I was actually refering to Vladimir's skill in reproducing a variety of textures and postures in a very believable and accurate manner ,something that does not stand true for all 3D sculptors.I have-as Gary- a lot of Altores' figures in my GA and I cannot help but being amazed every time I see one of Vladimir's works. In my opoinion his is the only scale-accurate mail armour in 54mm at the moment. His sculpts are unfathomably intricate and complex.I did not comment on the the knights guard/stance as I know little next to nothing about medieval fencing but I know that much of what we would call inaccurate on this field today were actual realities back in the day.To back this up I upload a picture of the well known specialist Mike Loades performong a special shot from horseback. The shot is absolutely correct historically(Mike is the only guarantee needed).I can hardly imagine the heat it would draw by most of us if this was presented in 54mm or 75mm figure.

Oda.
