That's my new little one. A 54mm from Andrea Miniatures, the reference Vercigetorix. About the figure. Great modelling and casting, no problems with union parts. Is white metal. I used the ground that comes inside the box. If someone is gonna to paint it, better paint the shield and appart, glue the figure to the definitive ground, and then put first the shield and then the cape. The worst of the miniature is paint the face inside the helmet. Was a hell.
My goal here was to obtain nocturnal colours. I used complementary colours in all the mixes to give the "grey finish" of the night, and glaces with oxford blue and purple. I'm happy with the miniature. One try before with another miniature was a collection of mistakes with a bad result, but it made me learn some things.
Now, here goes the pics of Vercingetorix looking for Caesar's romans in the night to ambush and kill. This time photos are worse than my others works, but i can't take better ones. Sorry.

A very bold move that sounds extremely intimidating to me and one I would never contemplate. But it has worked wonders for you.I am very impressed.

Oda.

That is impressive. The desaturation has worked very well. It is very obvious this is a night scene, and not a zombie warrior! Excellent!

As all the guys before me applaud for this....should I do it?
I'll be honest to you. I don't like it. For me it is just a black and grey painted figure.
I understand where you are going to with this, but for me it didn't work.
Sorry.
Marc.

Thanx to everybody for give me your opinion.

I thought the same for a long time, but one day you'll watch a miniature and have an idea, and this idea will be in the night, so you'll try. Sure.

Hi Marc.
I want the feedback of the PF members. For this reason i put the pics here. So, if you don't like, write it. If you watch something to improve (ok, the pictures are shit, and for example the purples in the face aren't so saturated as are showed here) write it. Don't say sorry, folk. To lie, is better don't write nothing Is your opinion and i respect it. (y)

Ok friends, for all the PF members. I'll never be angry for a negative opinion, suggestion, comment or correction. I'm here to show, watch and learn. I'll be angry for a lack of respect, as "this is a piece of bullshit. Take your brushes and go away to spend your time in another thing". And i was not here if i thought that the members of this forums gonna have this behaviour

Nice experiment. I like how the metalwork contrasts with the rest of figure.

Thanks for you kinds words, Kenshin and Phil

I believe the best way to desaturate is to use the complementary

IMO this contrast is one of the strong points of the scene

You are extremely brave to tackle this and to my mind have pulled it off-if I were to be critical I think you could have increased the shadow especially where the fur cloak is masked by the body-at night this would be very dark.
As usual I hate to comment on photos so forgive me if the criticism is in your view incorrect.

Keith

Thanks for your opinion Keith. I'm gland you write it here. It's clear we are bad photographers, but we must comment about the pics. Now that the detoxification time is over (a weel) and can watch my figure with more imparciality, is time to retouch little things to improve it. I take note of this. Thanks mate.

Ambitious and effective.

Importantly, this is exactly the type of effort that will inspire others
to try something similar and stretch their skills.

At first, I misread the title of this post. I read "Airbrushing Romans Under Moonlight". WHA?

I applaud your 'stretching the boundaries' concept. Great idea!
Has any other figure painter tried to capture and use nocturnal lighting?
I know it's been done in the fine arts. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_in_paintings_(Western_art)

All the best,
Dan

Maybe you gave an idea to a PF member with "Airbrushing Romans Under Moonlight". Is a great tittle, but difficult to execute :woot:
There are painters as Jesus Martin, owner of Nocturna/Historic Art with a style of painting very dark, with colours very desaturated and tones "no-humans". For example http://nocturnamodels.com/product.php?id_product=45 Is more usual at fantasy than historical to find these painters, or OSL ilumination. Here at PF remember Bailey painted a hobbit, or halfling, with OSL of ha candle and a dark enviroment, but not find the thread now to show you.
