Hi All
Can anyone clear up a little anomaly re stars and stripes patch on
the right arm of American soldiers.

I see it depicted with the stars to the rear as would be on a flag pole
but have been informed from an American female friend who was in the marines that the flag should be the other way round depicting running in to battle and not the opposite.

American cousins can you verify

Your friend is 100% correct. By Federal regulations, the American flag, when displayed on a uniform or vehicle, will face the forward direction of travel.

The flag MUST be displayed as if the field of blue were moving forward.

Hope this helps.

Nice one Patrick!
But everyone seems to paint it the wrong way round and no one seems to
pick this up even on the Youngs web site figures

You would be absolutely correct Ron. Even, at times, you will find the U.S. Military makes this mistake. But at least you know and you will get it right (y).

BTW- Andy Myers at SecOps models gets this correct.

Same on British aircraft, the thick white stripe goes to the top left on the left side of the fuselage as it would flying on a flag pole, on the right side of the aircraft it is reversed as it would be with the flagpole again being at the front, incidentally I see the damn thing hung upside down the world over, upside down was a signal of old for being in distress, especially in the Royal Navy. Bit of a pet hate seeing the thing displayed proudly but upside down.

As an example this decal is upside down! It would be correct stuck on the other side.

Yes, it is a modern era regulation. I can't speak for other countries but I can speak for the U.S. ANYTIME you see an American Flag displayed on a uniform, vehicle or aircraft, the field of blue should be facing the direction of travel.

Jim Patrick

Yes the reversal of the american flag on uniforms is recent so to speak. The rule was invoked in 2003. So all previous depictions are correct on uniforms as well.
