I wouldnt get apathetic gaudin.

You have started a great thread which is evolving alongside another one. Why dont you contact a few people through the forum that you would like to hear more about and see whether they would be interested to enlighten us all about their work, how they do it, where, when etc etc and see what happens.

You could highlight different manufacturers and see if they would be willing also. It doesnt just have to be masters.

Cheers

Stuart

I guess another twist on Gaudin's idea would be to set up a template and let anybody who wants to populate it themselves. That might catch on and could avoid the eilitist concern. Some people don't mind profiling themselves while others never will. I expect you would get a subset of the membership over time, from newbies to some real masters. After all its also a marketing opportunity for those who do commission and sell finished items.

Just a thought to keep this ball in play. :)

I've been following this and it's parallel thread with interest. It's going through the usual cathartic stages that tend to follow proposals of this sort, it's as Stuart says, nothing to get apathetic about and I would highly commend his proposal.
Having been involved in 'encouraging' a number of 'community' publications over the years I am under no illusions as to how difficult it is to establish an editorial group and how fragile these can be. Gaudin if you run with this then be aware that although a group of willing individuals come forward this will soon dry up as other committments take precedence.
Perhaps a sensible approach, that hopefully wouldn't be too onerous would be to go for 12 (1 per month) articles by invited contributors. These could be replies to a set of questions followed by say 10 top tips. The identification of these individuals could be the role of the group and if the group was 4 strong each would take responsibility for contacting 3 modellers a year and posting 1 article every 3 months.
I agree with some others that it would be particularly interesting to invite contributions from those who are not regarded as 'masters' but are solid and respected performers in the modelling community. Many of the 'masters' have blogs where they generously give loads of information, what I'd like to hear about is the basics of how such and such makes a model stand out from the pack, say how he uses moss on his bases, how he sticks it and how it's kept/painted to keep looking fresh.
I guess the ball has perhaps landed in your court and the way forward now is to pm a few people and see if a group can be established. If it can great if it can't the kudos for having a go.
Cheers

ohhhh, it took me long time to read all comments. In my opinion Gaudin's idea is great! What is art without inspiration? I agree that technics and various tips from skilled sculptors and painters are very useful but it's only a technical side of our hobby. How we started to sculpt or paint figures? I am sure that almost everyone of us was inspired by the works of a particular painter or sculptor. And I am sure that stories about their inspiration will motivate more than the most detailed tutorial.

Derek -that's pretty much in a nutshell what I was going to do:)
I grew apathetic of the discussion, but there is enough evidence to suggest that this feature will be of interest to a significant group of people.

I will need some time to establish the rules and I am calling out for 2-4 people who at this stage are interested to get involved in this with me - please PM me. I will approach Gordie and we will give this ago as a pilot at some point. After that it will be up to people to keep it alive or to let it go.
