As a 70th birthday present, my wife treated me to an art class..... painting on canvas.

This is the result of my first attempt.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but I think i'll leave my avatar as it is, I don't wish to scare off the members.

Bob Ross had such a good technique for painting, shame no one told him to be careful using thinners and accidentally inhaling the fumes.
Apparently it was this this that led to his early death, on his TV series you can see his method for cleaning the brushes, not advisable.

Nice, Malc!
No so different from painting figures, though ;) But the Monty Python reference is always fun.
This is a good skill to pick up, because you can paint your own backdrops for displays. I've admired many of the German flat painters, because they've mastered basic painting well enough to make some nice backdrops for their framed displays. A generic horizon and sky, for example, can really enhance the display.
I look forward to seeing more of your work in this subject!
Prost!

Happy birthday Malc, well you’ve done a great job on that canvas. Lovely work indeed.

See, everyone thinks of Bob Ross, but I remember William Alexander better:

Interesting character. He was a German veteran, captured during World War II. He painted portraits of officers' wives, and became an American citizen after the war. Our local PBS station used to carry his show, "The Art of William Alexander". And apparently, he was an early mentor to Ross, too.

"Now ve vill put zome frohe kleine treessss here...."

Prost!

Pretty good that Malc.

Painting stuff like that was something I could never get the hang of in art lessons at school. Maybe we just had rubbish teachers.

Very cool. Great for a first I say.

That is something different indeed. Great idea from the Mrs.

Happy birthday chief!

wow, that'll be fun. enjoy.
The pottery session was great fun and turned out quite well. My wife and I both managed to throw four reasonable pots which we are going to go back and decorate so they can be fired.

.......The Great Pottery Throwdown calls Nigel
It definitely does, we love that programme. Throwing pots was great fun and I can see it could be seriously addictive. It's something I could get into, but I just don't have the time because all my spare time is devoted to model making. It's also incredibly messy! I thought my model making room was a bit of a mess, you should see the pottery studio we were in......:D
