Another thread I haven't had any notifications for, oh well back to manual checking it is.

Great progress Colin, he is really coming to life the eyes 3.0 are great with the off set catchlight. Love the colours on the lance cap too, just right

Cheers Simon

Almost done his head dress. A bit of clean up and then back to his face for a bit.

Hi Colin

Liking the headdress you’ve achieved , especially the crimson , the latest pictures really show the detail work you’ve done on the cords and raquettes

Rather like the flesh progression

Thanks for sharing the great pictures

A pleasure to follow

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Thanks Nap. It’s always a balancing act between posting periodic WIP and frequent SBS pics. I’m somewhere in between. I do worry that I will spam the thread with too many pics but I’m taking them constantly anyway as quality control so I might as well share some. I enjoy looking back on them when trying to recall how I did something new. This is my version of holding him up to a mirror to notice aspects I wouldn’t otherwise see.

I reckon the face must be pretty much done I can't see how you would improve it anyway. The plastron is nice, what colours are you using or is it a mix?

Cheers Simon
Thanks.

The plastron still requires some blending. It’s mostly Scale Color tube magenta + purple + red + flesh in various proportions. Also using Liquitex inks (magenta + payne’s grey).

What a pain painting the fine wavy (aka swirly) lace on his plastron and collar. It is very unforgiving and was frustrating the hell out of me trying to get the same thickness of line everywhere. The raised cast last is uneven…some is barely visible while other parts are very crisp. No criticism of the sculptor or Andrea….it’s the nature of the beast.

I had it all painted and it looked OK…but nothing like silver lace. So I went over it with a diluted mid-grey and then picked out highlights in white. So far I have only done the vertical plastron lace on the right, bordering his legion medal. That makes the necessity for perfectly matched lines widths less an issue. Looks better to my eyes. I will filter some inks over the final lace once I have done the rest.

Definitely not a kit for anyone with: (1) poor eye sight; (2) shaky hands or; (3) an ounce of sense.

Like a glutton for punishment, my next project on deck is even worse…probably one of the laciest uniforms recorded in Napoleonic portraiture. Pegaso’s 90mm Fournier-Sarlovese.
