Hi all

I recently purchased the Andrea 54mm Dracula kit.

I love the pose but the casting is NOT good. My question is out to anyone who has made this. The armour is engaved with very fine lines yet due to poor casting alot are obscured during clean up. Particularly on the right shoulder. Can you give me your verdict and as to how YOU overcame this. Also any pics of it completed by yourselves/painting tips and colours would be good.

Many thanks
Graham

I can well understand the problem with this kit Graham, if I were you I'd try and see if Andrea will supply you with a replacement part as for something like this where detail is paramount you don't want to be scrambling to recover what should have been there in the first place.

Failing that I've found the best way to create/recreate this sort of detail is to use needle files of the right profile - I think the edge of a 'marquise' will probably be best for this although at a pinch a half-round or triangle might work okay. This method should work okay for any convex areas but any recesses are going to be a major pain and it's a matter of finding the technique that suits you if you want to take a stab at it - you might try gentle push-cutting with a #10 blade will work. You could also try scraping, I don't like this generally as it's so easy to slip and score the surface but you might be better at it than I :)
