hello
i have tried out the Andrea flesh paints.i have undercoated the bust figure with GAMES WORKSHOP spray primer.on this i painted the acrylics.but i think if one handles them and rubs slightly on the painted arm while handling them they scuff and wear down imediatly.and the white base coat i coming through.
thats an thing i do not like.it seems only the flesh.
an thing the REVELL acrylics do not show.
so i think i will basecoat on the white ground in future with revell skin base and on this is will use andrea.
is this only on mine this case.
maybe other users had the same problems
cheers

I think it's the combination of primer and paint. I had the same problem when I used the black Games Workshop primer with Vallejo paints. Probably the surface after priming is too smooth for a good adhesion of these paints. Now I'm using Tamiya or Vallejo primer and don't have any problem anymore.

regards,
Marcel.

I second this! It could also be the various mix of solvents in the brands of paint conflicting with each other. I love Tamiya primer and got a good stockpile before it went MIA in the States but I have Vallejo aerosol primer as a backup and both of these work very nicely. (I've had bad luck with GW primers in the past.)

The only other thing I can think of that might cause the paint to come off before sealing is the mix is off - as in the paint too thick, or if you add a retarder or flow-aid, too much of that, etc.

Cheers,
Karrie

Why are you handling the figure after you have primed it then painted it?
I think handling it and then as you mention "rubbing it" I think thay may be the problem rather than the paint you are using.

I agree its probably a a bad mix of primer and paint- I have had a similar experience with other paints. handling a figure repeatedly n the same area while you are painting- maybe that is what is wearing it down as well. if u have o other option maybe you should bt a culeof coats of clearover top...?

having said that if anyone wants a set of Andrea paints I carry them, andhave some in stock all color sets-Contact me

dear collegues
thanks for your oppinions.they are very helpfull.i had in mind that maybe mixing revell and andrea paints might the source.
but the solution that the surface of games workshop is to smooth might be the reason.i have now undercoated the arms with revell flesh and painted them over again so now problems seems fixed.
so if i prime i should overcoat then in an thinn white revell white.because i have just tried on arms paint is now firm
i will try this on an scrap piece and see what renderes best
thanks to all.interesting to se how different paints from brands to react with primers.with other paints i had this problem not seen before.
so learning all the time.might be that the pigments of andrea are much finer than revells which are made with vehicle painting in mind
and happy painting

hello
well i did not dab around on them.but if you take the painted bust at the columshaped base and the arms of the bust hang over you can get in contact.specialy when you are as clumsy as i am.
i agree that on an figure on an plinth this thing does not occure.
cheers

Pinsel very good point about handling, I try never to touch the figure once its primed but I know sometimes its unavoidable.
Please let us know how you are getting on using the Revell paints once you have finished your tests

Have a look at Marcs 'holder' in the articles forum, these work brilliantly and really avoid any need to handle at any point through from priming to final paint coat.

hello
thnaks for the tip.i normaly use wooden blocks on which i glue the figure and which are conviniant to hold.but my problem occured after the bust was done.this AC model bust is mounted on an round columshaped base.the arms hang over and as i took the base in hand at its lowest end. i had some very small contact with the underside of one painted arm with my hand.imediatly the paint rubbed away, showing the white primer
in the meantime i have undercoated the arms simply in the revell skintone.on this base i then appiled the ANDREA acrylics.i used them like one i stold with water in thinn layers to get an transition of different paints.
now with the revell base coat the colours do not wear off again.
so my fazit
if you use andrea paints on an figure avoid GAMES WORKSHOP spray primer
or if you neverless use it,you should then undercoat again with say revell flat white.or one can basecoat the parts in adeqaute colour tones of revell and the finetuning is then made with andrea paint.beetwenn revell and andrea paint i found no problems.
of course this is somewhat silly.undercoating first and basecoat with revell again?
well but in my case i have still three cans of this primer i want use and i want use the andrea paints.and i have revell flat white
so i will use this.when the cans emtied i will look for an other primer.
i hasten to add, when i used the primer before and used that with any other colours oils enamels revell acylics i had never this pheneomen that colour is getting rubbed off with even the slightest contact with the hand.
and because an other user reported he found this basecoat and vallejo paints not bonding to well its surely the problem that andrea and games workshop primer are not working to well in combination either.
cheers
