WIP Critique Andrea Miniatures, Polish Lancer

It seems like a I have created this bad habit of keeping few started projects at the same time. This is my fourth started project on the desk, but my first bust. I have never done a bust before and so far I love it. Which is not good for my wallet.

Here is a picture of completed face. All done in acrylics: Vallejo/Jo Sonja's. I see that some blending still needs to be done here and there, but this is nothing major and if I decide to lay some oils on top of it, it may not be necessary after all. I am still beating myself if I should go with oils over it or leave it as it is.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

It's a very natural looking skin tone well away from the current trend of over dark shadows ,could do with a little red to the cheeks and nose possibly ,but not much!
Once the uniform is painted it will look different and give you an idea if it needs a bit of a tweak .

Looks great so far and nice to see more natural shading.

DO NOTHING until you've done the eyes and the rest of it.
Yes, oils may well give it a feeling of depth to the skin tones, but you've done such a good job so far, you may be in danger of over-doing it - it pursuit of 'The Perfect Bust.'

Other than that, maybe go away from it for a week, and see how you feel then.

just a little note, how old is this man? wrinkles that mark the eyes are deep but why there aren't any other?

if is a young man wrinkles are too deep, if is an old guy he has much more wrinkles to sign is face...

Nice start. Looks like you have used an airbrush. I like the colours you have used. Do the eyes first before you make any decisions. This will bring the face to life.

Ron,
When I look at this at my desk it is little bit darker. There is definiteky more reddish tone to the chicks and nose. I even have some 5 o'clock shadow painted which is hardly visible here on picture.

I have used airbrush just for the basecoat. Everything else is just hours of blanding using a brush.

Yea you can always rely on a digi camera to wash out colour at close range

Thought there was some airbrush work there somewhere. Not knocking it though mate. Skilled form of painting and I can't use one to save my life. I can see you have blended some acrylics there and it looks a good start. I painted my version of this bust using oils. I think it's on my album on PF somewhere. Yours looks really good so far but as always cameras always tend to wash out the colours. Whoever said the camera never lies never took a picture of a bust!! Good luck with the continued painting mate.

Really great looking start. I agree with the other post to not do anything else to it till some other details are filled in. I wouldn't go on top with oils for fear of messing up your work now. It really looks so smooth and glowing as is.

Saga continues. Painted hair and worked a little bit more on the face.

Great job so far... I too am a fan of the more subtle, dare I say realistic style of painting. I find if you block in some of the surrounding colours you'll get a better idea of how the skin tones will look as the bust is completed.
