Question for anyone who is in Napoleonic era. I want to paint this uniform with white kurtka and crimson lapels. This would depict an idea of Polish Lancer having white kurtka as a parade-dress when the regiment was created. It does not seem like this idea came to life after all, but in some instances senior officer wore those on special occasions. If I decide to represent a senior officer or Colonel I need to sculpt additional ornaments on the collar and lapels. Lapels would have those located next to the buttons. I want to paint this one as a lower rank officer and need something to give me enough doubt, that there was possibility for them to wear white kurtkas on early years of the regiment as well. Otherwise I would have to sculpt ornament which does not seem like a good idea

Any help would be much appreciated.

According to Roucelot, in 1807, a colonel's parade dress included a white tunic. There wasn't alot of extra embroidery, just a square lace on each button on the lapels. The lace all over the tunic was scarlet with silver lines on each edge and through the center with an edge to edge scalloped line (as sculpted on your figure). If you aren't in a huge rush, I'll scan the pages with the plates and accompanying text later on tonight and post it on this thread.

Definitely I am not in the rush. If you can scan some plates that would be great. Doing square ornaments does sound like dong oak leafes with arrow head endings. Were there any ornaments on the hat?

Sorry I misspoke, once I zoomed the plate I could better see that the embroidery on the plasterons at the buttons is oak leaves... My bad. Anyway, the first plate is a colonel in parade dress, which I think is what you are looking for. The oak leaves on the plasterons and around the collar might be able to be painted on rather than sculpted. If you do decide to sculpt them check out Colin Fraser's (crf) SBS on his sculpt of the Marshel Ney bust... He gives a great description on how to do it.

Thanks guys for the input. I am quite aware of these examples. The picture posted from Edorta represents Colonel Krasinki wearing a ball-dress, which is not my case. Than on the Roucelot drawing we see a superior-officer wearing white kurtka but he has two epaulettes where the bust I am painting has only one. So either I sculpt another epaulette plus buttons ornaments and paint it as a superior-officer or maybe someone can give me something to believe that actually there were situations were lower rank officers would wear a white kurtka with one epaulette and no extra ornaments?

I am keeping the blue and crimson colors for Pegaso's Polish Lancer bust.

Had a day off at work, so got a chance to paint some whites. Not my favorite color to paint. I feel like it needs to adjusted here and there when I look at it.
