Hey Keith!

I am a little torn on my thoughts on the Andrea CD. On one side is is really good and very neat on the other hand it don't show a whole lot of nothing.

The CD contains info about color theories, which is one of the best parts on the CD. The other main feature is the painting of skintones. This is a really cool part as you get to see everything, mixing of paints to the finishing 5'oclock shadow, and it looks good too.

The rest of the stuff on the CD is so and so. They have a part on painting clothing, but in my opinion it sucks, the techniques are good to know, but the colors and stuff they are using looks terrible (IMHO) and not very convincing. I guess they prioritised on techniques though, so if it is the technique you are looking for this will be a good part also. Other sections are dry brushing, painting leather (also good), Priming, assembly, ground work (which is a very weak point, think drybrushed kit base). It also contains some more stuff like History of the miniatures and some other topics that I can't recall now.

Overall the CD is really neat, its cool to see others paint. I think the CD would be helpful if you are starting out using acrylics or are new to figures as it will give you a taste of the basic techniques. I would rather have seen a little more elaboration on a few subjects instead of very basic 1-2 minute clips of everything from opening the box to finishing the figure. If you allready have the basic techniques down the CD will be of little help, other then some neat things about color theories. It is also neat to see others paint and how they go about it.

So it really depends on what you are looking for, if you want to learn a lot, based on what you already know, it may or may not be of help, if you want to see others work its great. I think the concept is a really good one and it just needs to be a little more elaborated and specific instead of everything at once.

Hope this is of help :) Feel free to ask more!

Thaks for your feedback. I'm not a beginner to painting but am pretty much to Acrylics, so wondered how much the technique differs to oils. It's also pretty neat to see others working but am a little worried about how much i'll get out of the CD. I might be better spendin the cash on more figures or other books maybe. Or just a set of acrylics and to get going.

If you are totally new to figures, I would recommend the CDROM.

It is fun to watch but since I got it and watched it, it now sits in my work desk.

Spend your money on Painting Overhead lighting #1 and #2.

The books look good and i would like to get them too. It was just the thought of watching someone actually painting which i thought might be quite neat. I remember in my youth watching a guy called Sid Mead (i think) on Model World converting some figures and that was very good to see him actually doing it rather than following a step by step photo layout. I guess it's a bit of a novelty thing though.
