This is Andrea's 54mm figure. It is the first figure I have painted in close to a year. I see some things I can improve on, but it sure feels good to sit down and paint something. Please let me know anything you see that could use improvement. It feels like I am starting over again. If you have any thoughts on how to replicate the steel on the sword blade let me know. I am not happy with how the sword turned out.
Thanks, Rusty

Hi Rusty: Wow, this is just a lovely presentation; nice
photos too. Your rendering of the red sash and the red
cape is just wonderful. And not easy to paint, in my view,
either red, black, or white. . . Congrats, , , , , Jayhawker

Thanks guys for the kind words. I am glad you like it.
Mr. Brownlee it is good to hear from you. I hope all is well.

Best thing to do about the blade is to cut it out and make a new one out of a hacksaw blade or a flattened nail (files, sandpaper and a lot of patience). That is a fairly tricky task at first but worth the effort and becomes easier as you get experience. You can polish it and it will look the part.
You can see slight curving of the blade you got - I think that steals a bit of impression too. It is also not aligned with the handle, so looks slightly odd.

This is one I have done 15 years ago, I was playing with ideas before I discovered miniature. Its a old rusty nail and a tin can. Obviously not 54mm scale, but gives an idea.

Here is a 54 mm blade done this way

Lovely job. The reds are great!

Nothing replicates metal better than metal itself. Just buff up the blade and give it a thin wash of a dark oil colour of your choice. Something like burnt umber or
vandyke brown according to how dark you want it.
