That's nicely done Dirk. Good work on the tartan and also the groundwork. What clan did you represent with this tartan??

Very nice paint job Dirk, the tartan would have to be Macgregor or Campbell.
Hope your going to light a ciggie with the lighter and not the figure!!!!

Thank you for the kind words!

Actually, this movie's story about Rob Roy takes place in a time before the Clans even started to associate special tartan designs for each clan.
The Tartan represented on this miniature is a design that could only be seen in the movie. I wasn't able to find any evidence in my books or the web, if this is an authentic tartan design. I couldn't even find a good clear image of this design.
So I hade to work with the photos on the box and a few stills from the DVD.

But the authentic Mac Gregor Tartan has a basic red color.

Actually I am a non-smoker. :)
But I like to paint by candle-light. ;)

This was not my first tartan, but I am still not too happy with it. Besides wrestling with the pattern, I could have painted on more shadows and lights. But I had to finish it one day. :)
May with the next tartan.

Thanks again.
Cheers

Hi Dirk
Your probably correct about the tartan but the main thing is that you've painted it really well.
What!! you don't smoke? What do all you non-smokers do after sex?

As I was asked about the groundworks, I want to add a few details about the becoming of this project.

I used 2 sorts of model railroad static grass. The larger plants are made of natural moss I got out of the woods. And the flowers are some dried and pressed small natural flowers I got from a friend. The few tiny leaves surrounding the flowers are thyme leaves.

Oh, I also have a few shots I took before painting. Here you can see, how I extended the metal rock base with a resin cast. The resin rock was pulled from a Woodland Scenics modelrailroad rubber rockmould. (wow, a long term :D)
Gaps where filled with Magic Sculp and the ground is made of airdrying seamfiller from Molto. (Don't know if anyone knows the company outside Germany) Anyway, that seamfiller is great stuff for creating realistic groundworks.

Cheers
