WIP Critique Andrea's Celtic warrior, 54 mm.

Hello.
Here's a mini I'm working on at the moment. This is a celtic warrior, I st C BC, from Andrea Miniatures range. It's kind of experimant for me, beacouse I painted big area of flesh (torso) in acrylics, instead of my usual oil painting. And if you want to know my opinion: use oils to paint flesh. It's easier to paint whith them, and I belive, the result is better. Torso is almost completed, I'm going to add some hair on the chest, and probably I'll paint the torso with a satin varnish. Face and neck are still to be done.
I'm curious what do you think about my little experiment. In reality model looks a bit better then on the photos.
Opinions and critiques will be much appreciated.

I think he looks great so far. it's funny how this oil vs acrylic debate lingers. I can't paint worth a lick with oils on anything smaller than a bust and think acrylics are so much easier, faster and more versatile. While an oil painter will think that is just crazy talk. I think it just comes down to what you are comfortable with and from the looks of your start you seem comfortable with acrylics.

Tony - I belive he's not to tanned. Actually in reality his skin is lighter tone. As I wrote, pictures weren't so good.

Mike, I use both acrylics and oils, and to say the truth, mostly acrylis. I'm not trying to argue which medium is better in general. I find acrylics more suitable for some works and oils for another. I belive I might call myself experienced acrylic painer - which means, I'm familiar with acrylics and not afraid to use them. And, from this position, after trying both mediums, I'd recommend oils to paint flesh.
I'd like to encourage you to try it - even if you already tried and dind't like it. Maybe you find it a quicker and easeier way to paint. Or maybe not, but it's always worth to try.

Thanks for comment Mary. I'm glad you like it.
Flesh was painted mostly with use of andrea's flesh paint set.
Shadows were enriched with luftwaffe green and dark prussian blue (VMC).
For some extrerme higlights I used ghost gray (VGC)
For midtones: base + vermillony (VMC), solomon rose (VMC), liche purple (GW).
Generally - I find Andrea's Flesh Paint Set excellent, but to reach a realistic, lively look it's necessery to add some different colours, especially reds.

Nice work Simon. Good idea to experiment with acrylic skin tones. Helps to confirm one's preferences, in your case for oils!
Although I like the Andrea set, I agree with you that it needs some additional colors to get a lively result.

Great work on the stripes on the pants by the way.
