Hi All
Back again with some more updates. I have started and almost completed the jacket, it needs a few highlights here and there to lighten it a bit as I think it looks too much like a leather jacket at the moment. I have also added a few very light sepia filters to the face and it has brought the hues into line, but probably need a bit more till I am completely happy. The Mae west has had its base colour added and I need to do the shadowing on it.
I think it is coming together now and should have some more updates next weekend.

I really do love this and a very difficult process to pull off ,I bet you have found that even with a limited palette of colours it makes you think outside the box with tones innovative and imaginative taking the norm and making it something special.
Really well done mate hat off
Cheers Chris ,"not in leather coat" Edwards lol

Hi Steve,
Cheers mate, I think your right and will do this I am sure. I cant wait to see where you go with your sepia project, I haven't seen any other figure done this way so it would be interesting to see how you and other people handle it.
G'day Chris
Thanks for your kind comments. You are right, it isn't easy to use these three colours, I honestly think that straight black and white would be easier, and it does make you think differently about how you handle the palette and grades of shading.

Cheers Ben won't be today for sure been a day of dropped things disasters  so not going to start ANY modelling for sure, really interesting to see how it develops
Steve

Hello again,
Haven't really touched this one for a few months but got the chance to tuck into it on the weekend. I redid the face and am pretty happy with it, still needs a few touch ups. I added the dog and generally went over the whole figure, getting the sepia tone to a point that I was happy with.
He is almost done now, just needing the wires from his helmet added, the lenses in his goggles painted, and put onto a pedestal.
Please tell me what you think

G'day Ben,

Mate I've been following your progress on this bust for some time now and I must say you've really kicked your painting into high gear on this project. ;)

The subtle transitions from highlight to shadow, especially with such a limited colour palette must make this exceptionally challenging. Having said that, I think you've really pulled it off. (y)

The only problem to me is the pilot's eyes. They appear lifeless. Is there anything extra you can do to put a twinkle in his eye and add a catch-light or two to suggest a light source or reflection?

Hi Al and Tony,
Thanks for the great comments. Probably wont get a chance to do any more on him for a week or two, but will post when there is more to show.
Tony, great advise, and will definitely look into it. I generally don't do catch lights as I think gloss coats naturally do this, but on this one as its to look like a photo and wont have a gloss coat, I may have to do them.
Cheers
Ben

Very nice in deed really like the sepia effort if my WWI bust turns out half as good I'll be happy, I don't do catch lights either as a rule but think I may have to as well
Steve

Gday Marc and Steve
Cheers for your comments guys. Marc yeah I don't think I have seen another Sepia toned kit yet, plenty of B&W, but I wanted something a bit different.
Steve, ta mate, Love to see your WW1 bust when done. It really makes you think outside the box doing it this way
