Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone can help me locate a source for some figure bases? The bases are for mounting 28mm figures for a chess set that I’m making. So, I need the following:

8 black bases (with plinth) at 1in x 1in x 1.75in (tall)
8 white bases (with plinth) at 1in x 1in x 1.75in (tall)
8 black bases (with plinth) at 1.25in x 1.25in x 2in (tall)
8 white bases (with plinth) at 1.25in x 1.25in x 2in (tall)

The equivalent metric sizes would be fine also. They don’t need to be wood as they’ll be black or white in color, so plastic would be fine, and if someone can 3D print them (with a very fine and smooth resolution) then that would be OK too. In fact, if they can be 3D printed then I could have the additional motifs that I’m designing printed on the base instead of my adding them on after.

Given the number involved, I'm trying to manage the cost, so exotic woods are out I'm afraid.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Gerry

Hi Brad,
Thank you. I've seen Ken's bases before and they are really beautiful. Unfortunately, they're too pricey for this application and the numbers don't work.

Something a little simpler will be needed for this.
Best regards
Gerry

Thanks for the link to MDP. These look ideal for the purpose and are much more reasonably priced. At 32 bases it's amazing how easy it is to get to $150!!

I appreciate the help.
Regards,
Gerry

I recently placed an order with Ken Thomas for bases. Unfortunately, he indicated that he is closing his operation because of health issues. I wish him the best. His bases were of excellent quality and he was my go to resource.

Model Display Products was mentioned as a another source of bases. Any recommendations for other base manufacturers?

Just ordered from MDP. Thanks again for the help!
Gerry
Martyn does a good selection too. Also has pieces that he never gets around to adding to his site for some reason so if there's something you're looking for email him. You never know.

That's too bad! I didn't know.

That's too bad about Ken Thomas. When I spoke with him earlier this year he said he hoped to be back to making bases, but I guess the issues must have made it too difficult for him. Jon Jefferies also sells very nice bases. Unfortunatley, I'm at work and I don't have his contact information with me.
