Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!
In a day or two you'll be receiving your membership renewal letter from Dee Moore. I hope that we can count on all of you to renew this year. Your donation will help us better plan for future projects. BTW The annual dues money goes towards our projects and small admin expenses. The shows we have done and plan to do were and will be self sufficient. I would also encourage you to do a bit of recruiting for us. As an incentive, the member bringing in the most new members at the end of the drive will receive a gift. Make sure that your referral writes your name in on the membership form so you'll get credit. I haven't decided what it will be because not all the items I've requested have come in yet. I'll announce it soon. We'll also have a drawing at the end of the drive for several other prizes. To be eligible you must have renewed or signed up as a new member during the drive.
Last month I became aware of a project that I thought was something we wanted to get involved in. Rather than go into all the details I'm attaching a link to the article for you to read. http://blog.al.com/sweethome/2011/12...t_cemeter.html Last week the APG committed to aid the cemetery in building a memorial. So far our participation has been to help secure the donation of a large piece of Alabama stone for the memorial. We have several contacts in Alabama and they are in the process of soliciting quarries in the state for a donation of a 4x4x2 piece of white marble. Once we get the stone (and I'm confident we will) it will be delivered to a stone mason in Central Virginia to have two spots prepared to accept plaques. One plaque will identify the location, the other will list the names of the men known to be buried there. The folks in Prince William County are funding the mason work and plaques. If we can aid in getting this work donated we will be get involved there as well. A few members have offered monetary donations. We will forward any money collected to a fund for the perpetual care of the site. If you would like to donate send a check to the APG 2221 Hunters Rd SW Roanoke, VA 24015. Or, you can donate via Paypal by sending your donation to [email protected]. Make sure you note that the donation is for the 10th Alabama Cemetery. All donations are tax deductible. To learn more about Bristoe Station you can go to http://www.pwhpf.org/ Thanks to the Civil War Trust the land here was preserved. Had they not stepped in years ago this cemetery and a Mississippi cemetery would have been bulldozed and lost forever.
I've updated the site with a link to the Vendors contract for this years show. The link is on the 2012 show page. I'll add more as it becomes available.
We still have a couple seats open for the Doug Cohen workshop. It's first come, first served, so email me ASAP if you would like to participate.
Thanks again for all you support. I hope we can get everyone back on board again this year.
Regards,
Mike
