K having A) decided that the hat will in fact be the second one (SWMBO exercised her womanly prerogative and changed her mind ) and B) tacked it on, it seems to throw it's own shadows, my question is should I ignore the hat and just shade the face in a neutral way and let the hat do the work or should I shade it heavier at the top etc where the shadow comes from the hat ? The face is nowhere near ready as yet just the basic blocks really.

I tend to shade the face as is, and like you say let the hat do the rest.
Now get it glued before there's anymore mind changing,

Cheers Carl Oh now we have the argument about hat and plume colours coming I'll just paint it while she's out I believe the plumes were usually white ? any ACW bods know more ?

Steve White or Black I think were the most common, a light coloured hat with a black plume or a dark coloured hat with a white plume
