Hello...

RPmodels have the pleasure to annouce a NEW SERIE that calls Ancient World - Enemies of the Rome...

Its the year of 9 BC. General Varus command 3 legions more auxilia troops and he wants to conquer the Germania... Arminius command the German tribes, and defeat the Roman Legions in Teutobourg, The Black Forrest... Some people said, in the end of his life, you can see Ceasar Augusts
sc reaming in the Palace... "(...) Varus... Give my legions."

Arminius.jpg

I need your help, because we already start this modelling, but we have some doubts, because Arminius are the Commander of Cavalary Auxilia, so he maybe use the armour and weapons that we have, roman dresses, weapons and gear... What kind of gear, dresses, equipment and weapons the Roman Auxilia Cavalary use in this period, 9BC? He is a Commander... They have special gear or weapons?

Thank you.
With best regards
Hugo Pereira

The Auxiliar-troops were normaly dressed in national clothes,in this case germanic.
The weapons were mixed, roman and germanic.
The commanders sometimes used Roman equipment.

He;;o Hugo, all the research for Armenius was done some years ago for a project by Andrea miniatures. It was a 90mm vignette of Armenius triumphant over the body of a legionary. There was an article in one of the early issues of Historical Miniature..
Also there are plenty of illustratins on google and the whole episode was described by Robert Graves in I Claudius.
Best wishes, Gary.
PS There's a fair argument for including a few of the Emperors under the Enemies of Rome heading.

Wasn't that 90mm piece done by Pegaso if it's the one where he holds aloft a shattered Eagle standard (Aquilif?)

Gary

That Pegaso 90mm was a great piece and a subject I very much liked. Indeed, it was something I often toyed with buying when I had it in my hands but I just could not live with the Arminius head and what looked like a bad 1980's (Kevin Keegan style) perm haircut! The dead Roman on the other hand was a superb sculpt in all respects.

If I had the skills to do something with the Arminius head to make it more Germanic or even convert it with a helmet, I would have added it to the G.A.

Alas, I don't!

Hello Mr. Mortier...

Thank you for your comment... Ive some doubt... Arminius is the Commander of Auxiliary Cavalary... I talk with some people, and maybe he dresses roman clothes and use roman gear and equipment. He was created in Roma with the costumers of the roman citizens. I dont think he changed clothes or weapons... Its diffcicult to have a reference about this... I talked with University Professor, and he told me this... And this make sense... I think this is a good idea to develop, and then we can put a cape with german people use... This is something that we have in mind...

Thank you Sir.

Hugo,
You are on the right track on this project. Not only was he Commander of the Auxiliary Cavalry but head of the scouts which allowed him to come and go from the column. He was raised in a Roman household so would tend to lean towards him wearing mostly Roman dress. When the final assault came did he return in tribal dress?? Who knows?
I just hope you don't end up like Augustus at the end of this project and are hitting your head against the wall!!

Hello Mr. Gary

In first place I want ask you appollogies for my delay answer... I hope I didnt case any inconvenience... My appollogies Sir...

Thank you for the information... You are very kind Sir...

Before We think In develop Arminius, The first thing that We do is check if there anyone do it him... And this is important because We have to respect The other companies... I dont like to talk about other companies or their produts... In my opinion this is unfair And unpolite... Its just away to see The things... Nothing else, and because of that I love share my thoughts, ideas and objectives of RPmodels...

About Arminius... The concept that We have In mind is a historical concept... Arminius is the Commander of the Roman Auxilia Cavalary... Só our figure will be In a horse... Another thing that We want to present is the attack at Roman Forces... So the best way to converge this points is putting Arminius in a horse trowing a spear against a Roman Soldier... And this is the way that the problems start... What dresses he maybe used? Weapons? Gear? After read some books, some research and talking with some experts, in our opinion, the best way to represent Arminius is with Roman clothes, gear and equipment... He was created was Roman, with values and education of the Roman Culture... Só this is the best way... But We have to give him some taste of Germania Culture, and We will do it putting a Cape of an animal or something type of clothes that maybe the german people can use...

Its difficult to develop a concept and the information available is almost none... But I think We are In a good way...

Arminius will be available a Bust and a 75 or 90mm figure...

Thank you for your friendship and patience with us.
With best regards
