Hi Hugo,

Arminius was a German by birth but was raised as a Roman, trained as Roman and dressed as a Roman. It's entirely possible that he was seriously conflicted in his emotions and allegiances and was both Germanic and Roman.
It would have been part of his plan to deceive the Varus and his Roman Commanders to convince them of his loyalty by looking and acting as Roman as possible, prior to switching allegiance and leading the legions to their doom in the Teutoborg Forest.
Personally, I'd like to see Arminius dressed in Roman style armour, but wearing a torc around his neck or a wrist band, or something else to signify his Germanic heritage.
I hope that helps.

Personal experience? Generals wear, pretty much, what they damn well please...
So, what would you wear if you were the General in the day?

Hi Harry,

I'm not sure what your comments have to do with this thread or who they are directed to.

Most of the Generals I've met and worked with wear the same uniform as everyone under their command.

I suspect has been the case throughout history, including during Ancient Rome.

Perhaps you served in a different sort of Army to me?

What's your point?
