Hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone has any references on the above regiment, please? I am in the middle of a job and am struggling to find reference to the collar badges and crossbelt furniture.

I have good reference to the helmet and plate, epaulettes, etc, but am drawing a blank on close up details of the officers and ORs belts.

Thanks in anticipation,

Steve

I believe the other ranks were wearing 1871 valise equipment in brown leather with the rifles pattern snake clasp.
This picture shows them wearing frocks at camp in about 1890.
I've probably got most of the reference you need if you can wait a couple of days. Off the top of my head though they wore a standard uniform in grey, so you could make a start with reference to ust about any of the volunteer rifle units of the time.

Brilliant, thanks Martin! I am converting a bust and have reshaped the FS helmet into a Home Service one. The figure will have one belt over the left shoulder, so I am looking for the plate and pickers detail for a sergeant, ideally, as I really like the mix of bronze and grey, rather than the silver gilt of the officer.

If this works out OK, I have another planned for the Staffs Rifle Volunteers, slightly earlier, with a kepi. I will post pics soon.

Many thanks for taking the time to post these, Martin - I am fascinated by these "minor" regiments! They all have a similar "look" about them, I think I will be able to continue my bust, now!

There is a lifetime's subject matter here, to model all the Volunteer regiments, alone!

Thanks again,

Steve,
You've probably got the information you need from Martin, but I've come across a one page article in a magazine called Modelworld about the Artists' Rifles of 1900, which may be of some use:-

Cheers,
Andrew
