Some specialists say that the earring might have been silver. It´s size seems quite big as for the pearl, but nobody can tell it for sure

In the new scientist explanes a dutch professor that he has found that it is not a pearl.
Such big pearls don't exist, and if it whas a pearl it was way to expensive..
The professor thinks that it must be a silvered or polished tin earring. Another possibility is painted glass..

By the way. The painting whas not always called "the girl with the pearl earring ".
this is since 1995. Therefore it whas the girl with turban.
