I'm getting dangerously close to finishing this bust by Young and wanted to post some in progress pictures for some feedback while he is still alive on my table. I have a bad habit of never touching them again once they go on the shelf, so please let me know what you think about him and point out any glaring errors so I can fix him while he still has a pulse. Thanks for looking.

Mike over all I see big improvements in your work. The fleshtones have a nice look with good transitions. The color choices are nice, the armor looks good. I would revisit the hair. In the second pic the transition from your shadow tone to the highlight feels too stark to me. I would come back with a mid-tone and see if that can be toned down a tad. Also remember, with overhead lighting, everything gets a bit of transition from light to dark, top to bottom respectively. With that said, think about the gold on the top of the helmet, the plume on the crest, the leather patch at the center of the linothorax armor, etc. Keep at it, you improve with every piece!

Mike, two things stand out.

One, you're definitely improving with every piece and your use of highlights and shading is becoming more subtle.

Two, I'd have another look at the highlight on the chin under the lower lip. It could be a little more rounded and feathered at the edges. It looks a bit narrow to me.

wow what a beautiful job Mike, the only point as Jay told are the tones of the hair and in my opinion there is also a need of more transition for the flesh tones of the neck where there is a stripe of dark colour too strong , but a very little points, you did a very nice job indeed

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. I am sure glad I didn't just call him done. The advice is really good and very helpful, I am going to hopefully apply the advice properly and get him finished up by Saturday. Thank you all so much for the compliments and more importantly the advice/critiques on how to finish him properly.

Excellent painting Mike. I can only echo what Jay has already said. Each piece does improve. I think he's about ready for retirement in the case with full honors.
