Hwy Y’all the AMFS May meeting was a Paint Day

The paint day was a fun day at Hobby Town USA. We painted in the
gaming room and it worked out graet. We even had passes by coming up
and watch us paint and ask us about what we were painting as well as inquiring about the hobby.

Here are some tips from the folks there on paint day. We shared all this information as we painted.

Paul Davis and Tim Norman
Water brush, loaded with Reaper Flow Improver Additive or Amsterdam Extender.
Brush the additive on the figure and apply acrylic. Or you can add it to the paint first.

David Oswalt and David Wiggins and Paul Davis.
Holder for the Scale 75 acrylic tube paints. Lipstick/makeup acrylic holder. The tubes
fit perfectly in it. Paul gave us a link to 'the fixture zone' but you can also find it
on Amazon. Pretty handy.

David Wiggins
Instead of using paper towels, which has lint on it. David had lint free tissue. Delicate Task
Wipes, Kimwipes by KimTech Science Brand. David got his box off Amazon. it is a
thin tissue, thinner than Kleenex.

Pete Garrison and Matt Springer and David Wiggins
Use the RedGrass Games Wet Pallet.

Dee Moore and David Oswalt has had some issues with the RedGrass paper
causes paper fiber coming off paper and onto the brush.
· Pete solves by useing parchment paper and it works well for him.
· Matt and David solve by using the reusable 'paper' from RedGrass. Its called the
Everlasting Palette Hydration membrane. It is almost like a plastic type
'sheet' and it is washable/ reusable.

Lighting solutions used by club members.
Terry Martin and Dee Moore. We had Ott lights for the paint day.

David Oswalt and David Wiggins. Ryobi One 18 V LED magnifying clamp light.
It is battery powered. Source: Home Depot Appx cost $50.00. It does not include
the battery or the charger. if you have a Ryobi tool/charger, it should fit the light.

Greg Mix. Taotronics LED desk lamp. Appx. $40.00 that is a older price. You can
adjust the brightness and color of the light.

Matt Springer. Has heard the BarQ Lamp is good, but expensive.
Matt uses 100W LED white balanced bulb, vs the yellow cast that most bulbs have.

That's interesting. I use the RedGrass wet palette and paper, and haven't had that issue. I keep a sheet of paper longer than is respectable, too.

I did have that issue previously, with my old home-made wet palette, because I used brown packaging paper as the palette. That did deteriorate pretty quickly after just a few uses.

RedGrass' paper is very thin, though, too. Delicate, you could say. So I can see that it might "fray" with use.

Prost!
