Not to be rude, but I would like to know from fellow Aussies here if there is a place where I can buy timber bases for my future model collection as I am just starting out. Thanks in advance. :)

Louis,

The best place to buy some cheap wooden bases is Bunnings hardware superstores. Go to the timber section where they sell different shaped blocks for staircases and ballustrades and you'll find a very good selection of pine bases that are perfect for all sizes of figures from 54mm to 120mm.

They typically retail for between $6 to $10. Way cheaper than ordering the really top notch wooden bases from overseas and they look great when you stain and varnish them.

A minor grail quest, that one.....

I have some interesting knots of wood I claimed while out walking the dog.

Rough, will need a lot of work.....

I have use plaques from award/ trophy shops (no need t buy worlds greatest what ever figure), but finishes and sizes, always limited for choice and price, well.....

Have also done the thing where I have used an old food container (like canned tuna snack serve) for a base.

Clean, fill with plaster, invert (once plaster is dry) prime, paint. Not the greaest, still keeping my mind open.

For a teeny little 28mm figure, I have also used a door pull from some hardware shop, less then a dollar.....

Wood does have a nice character, however, sometimes changing the base will complement a figure....

Cheers

Jamie

Louis, there are a couple of prior threads here that you might like to have a look at if you want to take a stab at making your own.
