That works well for me Chris & agree can see what you’re after here.

There certainly is a variety & will have depended on tailor, material, pattern etc.

Will you add optional Emu plume
- I’d personally leave it off my version.

Thanks Mike, yeah, maybe the hands in the pockets are pulling the trouser leg in a forward position that's taking up the material? I'm not sure but, I think the extra volume I added in the magic sculpt has improved it. I intended to do optional feathers, but it would possibly need an attachment point on the hat. So would this be a problem chaps, or easily fixed with some putty by the modeller?

Coming along nicely Chris. It is going to a superb model.

As for the emu plume, not all light horse regiments wore it. Worn primarily by Queensland regiments, plus those in the 3 LH Brigade (8 LH (Victoria), 9 LH (South Australia) and 10 LH (Western Australia)). There was a helluva stink from the Queenslanders when the brigade arrived in Egypt in late February 1915 wearing emu plumes. It went to the top for resolution, which came down in favour of the new arrivals. One often sees 4 LH Regiment models with an emu plume, and indeed the memorial at Beersheba, when in fact they were one of the regiments NOT to wear it.

Looking forward to the finished product.

Cheers
Chris
Thanks for the background information Chris :) I'll also ask what your thoughts are regarding attachment of optional feathers as I did do with Mike.

I’d have a mounting hole on slouch hat & we can fill if left off.
As Chris said limited to some ALH only.

Another study of trousers on the staff Officer you’re using as reference you can see blousing on the inside thighs of jodhpurs.

Hi Chris,
I’d agree with Mike. Have the plume as optional with a hole for attachment or fill in depending on which regiment the modeler wishes to represent. Most would, I think, go for the plume.
Cheers

Update of where I'm at. Have been making plenty of adjustments with area's I wasn't happy with, hence the addition of magic sculpt as I had already baked the polymerclay to it's maximum temperature. As you will see with the photo's I've given the figure the option to have it looking in a variety of directions for the modeller to decide.

Nicely closed out Chris & think you’ve landed this Lighthorseman beautifully. I’m thinking looking left is my preference, seems to fit slight angle of slouch hat.
Thanks for allowing us in on development of this fellow.
BTW I’m in final stages of painting a 10th ALH Officer.
Both yours & my project made me reflect on these guys service as we lead up to ANZAC Day.
Lest we forget.

Hi Mike,

That's no problem, I'm humbled that you and other's were able to help me with some valuable input into the figure, which in the end helps it become a well rounded and authentic figure.

I still need a couple more details added, buckles, spurs riding crop and also a base, so will work on these over the coming day's.

Hopefully I can finish him off in time for ANZAC day to post the finished piece. It would be a small contribution in recognition of these great men and women on that special day.

Chris.

Hi Chris,
How are you mate? I hope all the family is well.

Nice character in the the face almost belligerent. He could be stood in a bar ready for a square up.:D
I think adding the extra volume as pointed out by Mike has nailed it.

Question...on the wire armature, do you always have to sculpt the head, torso and pelvis as it stands in that photo. The only reason I ask
is you now have a caster in place, so why not send him a master of each it would save save all that putty and time if you had a bunch of resin
parts to over sculpt.
cheers

Hi Richie,

They're all good thanks mate, hope you and yours are happy and healthy as well.

The facial expression just came out the way it did, unintentional, but I think suitable for the character. An officer either lost in thought, in conversation with his peers or overseeing drills or parade.

The sculpting process used to be honest changes, and I'm still exploring various option's.
I know the approach you are talking about, I guess there's possibilities with that approach, but it may depend on what medium I'm using.
It would definitely working using an epoxy putty but I haven't tried it with polymer clay, which needs baking in an oven to between 130°c and 150°c for 15 - 30 minutes. Not sure how the resin will stand up, but yet to try. I have been using a hard epoxy putty as the strong foundation over wire armature, then applying the polymer clay over the top and baking in stages lightly until I think its ready. But as we can see that can change and then I'll go to the epoxy if I can't bake again. I still enjoy using epoxy putty sculpts but they can cause me to have some allergy issue's as it's pretty toxic stuff.

With regards to a castor, I haven't settled on one to be honest, and I'm also wanting to do small runs myself. I'm hoping to start with that this year, as I have accumulated almost all the equipment I need.

Regards
Chris.

Hi Chris,
Good on you mate, you can sculpt something drop it in a mould and it's done and available for future projects. I wouldn't like to think I was trying to cast over there in that heat and humidity, but there will be ways around it. One other good thing is you control who you sell to.
cheers
Richie
