Hi

This is my first Bust so please show me the errors of my errant ways. :D

It is a bust from Phil Waldren and I really like it. (Found lots of photos from an Aussie reenactment society for colour and info.)

Those Emu feathers will be fun.

Ive primed it with Tamiya Nato black and started the first base coat on the hat (Vallejo US Dark Green)..

Got a bit excited and put the first basecoat on the torso ( Vallejo Interior Green) and face - still needs to be cleaned up as well.

The face needed a bit of tidying so I spent most time on that - also what one looks at most I think.

Will post more as I go along.

Thanks for looking.

Jim

This is a superb bust sculpted by my old mate Phil Walden several years ago.

My advice is to focus on the face first and ensure you get the face looking right before you start on the uniform.

I've attached a pic of my version of this bust to hopefully provide some inspiration.

A great model, and the best part is every new one I see is a new interpretation. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Like Tony, one I prepared earlier

A small update.

Been reading up on the Aussie light horse at their association site. Good read and some great pictures. (www.lighthorse.org.au)

Have done the first dark shading on the face, as well as starting the eyes. He is going to be blonde so have done the base shade there.
Also the base white for the Emu feathers on the hat.

Had found that the way I was using blu tack and clamps to secure the hat and head weren't working. I was finding that the finish was more delicate than I had expected and
could be damaged in handling.

My solution was to drill 3mm holes and bung in a length of brass rod - much easier to handle safely now
