Lovely work Phil. They were quite characters these tambour majors apparently, given to all sorts of marching acrobatics and tricks with their batons.

I also tend to paint the eyes looking other than straight ahead - avoids the thousand yard squint and adds character to the face.

Next instalment please.

Peter.

Great work Phil. Coming along nicely. I always enjoy doing Napoleonic Drum Majors and Drummers. This is one I do not have. Looks like contacting Troop 54 is in order

Afternoon all

Yesterday I finished cleaning up the main body/legs on our man, and decided I'd re-do the trefoils on his shoulders - not that the originals were poor, but Mr Banana fingers managed to mangle one while cleaning up the arm to body join. So, a bit of green stuff and a cocktail stick, and:

Today's session was devoted to the main paint colour, which Napoleonic buffs will know the name of - I'll call it sky blue. I mixed this from Vallejo Medium Blue and Off White, thinned it and airbrushed it on: Shadow using Scalecolour Cantabric Blue - highlights base colour plus more white.
Tambod 1.jpgTambod 2.jpg - I painted the vest too, using various whites. The main color is actually a lot more blue than the photos show it, but these bench shots are taken under a standard light source from an angle-poise.
I decided I'd push on and block in the turnbacks for which I used Vallejo Vermillion.

Last job today was lining in the lacing on the rear, this was done using a mix of Vallejo Off White and Vallejo Game Colour Chainmail Silver:

Boots, gauntlets and cross-belt tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Hi Phil

Thanks for updates

Look forward to the next

Happy benchtime

Thanks Nap and Graham. I must remember not to have a cup of coffee on the end of the bench when I'm trying to paint straight lines! A couple of beta-blockers maybe:X3:

Afternoon all. Shortish session today, partly due to some clumsy oaf  knocking his water pot over, resulting in a small lake on the bench, and a good hour stripping everything off, drying it and putting it all back - poo!

Despite this setback I managed to get the black leather bits done, and the lacing on the boot tops and gauntlets: Black is 50/50 Black and Black Grey

:)
I tidied up the lacing on the rear of the tunic and temporarily fitted the head to see how it looks:

Quite pleased with it so far. I have yet to go over it and line in the various edges and undercuts, and I notice the LH tassel on the bicorne has gone AWOL again, so that'll need sorting.
Tomorrow, sword and baton in the paint shop, and sort that ruddy tassel!

Phil

Hi Phil

Goodness coffee yesterday , water today ........nearly as bad as me ! ...still at least the bench is clean !

Despite all of this progress continues well , certainly a distinctive figure

Happy searching for that tassel

Look forward to the the next update

Happy benchtime

I've pretty much finished this chap. Just need to paint and attach his sword and then I'll post him on Completed Figures, along with the French para which has sort of drifted to the back of the bench.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments which I greatly appreciate(y)
