For those with an interest in Great War Austro-Hungarian Mountain Troops, here's the book for you!

History, Uniforms and Equipment of Austrian Mountain troops from 1906 to 1918, by Hinterstoisser, H & M. C. Ortner et al. ISBN: 3902526033. You can pick up a copy for $150.00 to $200.00 (or more!) from several Abebooks and other online vendors. From the promo and information on the web site, it genuinely looks terrific, but it ought to be for that price! I think I'll wait a bit, personally.

Worth every penny!!!!

I'm pleased to report that I think this one is worth every cent of the price! This is a terrific reference. Comparable to the Charles Wooley books on the Germans, Bret Werners book on the AEF or Stefan Rest's The Emperor's Coat about the Austro-Hungarians. But - different too. Not only does it cover the uniforms, equipment and weapons of the Mountain troops in lavish detail, but it also covers their history in the Great War, some biographical sketches and some specialty history on how the uniforms, equipment and weaponse were developed. Some photos from the book...enjoy!

All the best,
Dan

Hi Dan and Roger

It seems to be a great book. I put the german issue on my list, with the books I must have.

And the idea with the bust is great. Perhaps I will try it.

Someone sent me a PM asking, "Who was Charles Wooley?" So I thought others might not know.

Charles Wooley is the author of "Uniforms & Eqpt of the Imperial German Army 1900-1918", published by Schiffer Military History of Atlgen, PA. ISBN: 0-7643-0935-8 [Volume I] and 0-7643-1104-2 [Volume 2]. Both first class, well-organized Great War references and well done. Schiffer's web site is http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/

You should have no trouble finding reduced price copies of these on Amazon or www.Abebooks.com.

All the best,
Dan
