Never heard of this type of soldier before but it looks great and is a typical AP product - i.e. superb! It could also be used as a Conquistador I assume?

Terrific addition to the range.....another must-have. Aug. Ferrer-Dalmau's paintings show a few of these chaps. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that this series of figures has been inspired by his works. Fascinating period of European military history.

Known as sword and buckler men for obvious reason, they were actually the bulk of the Conquisador forces so yes mate (y) They were inntended as the Spanish equivilant of the Doppelsoldner or halbardiers of the German and Swiss pike blocks, break the push of pike etc, but weren't as effective as those, lacking the heavier armour and reach.

The name of the soldier is derived from the round shield, which was called "Rondache" in France at the time - and which was copied from the Saracens ...:

There are nice templates...:

The next one was obviously the template for the figure...:

It could also be used as a Conquistador I assume?

Basically "yes" - only the "Spanish fashion" clothes looked a little different ...

"Heroes in tights", so to speak ...

Cheers
