I doubt it at this stage Ron you could try skinning/sealing it with some clear fiberglass resin possibly

Fibre glass resin Helm ! what is that ,is it clear ,will it set over this bloody goo. the work on the base was extensive so got to try and save it ,no time left
to redo

It's the resin you use on glass fibre matting for car repairs/canoes stuff like that Ron. Halfords used to do it you may have to buy the hardner seperately.

Sorry to say that if you got the mix ratio wrong - the catalytic process ain't going to happen.

Back to square one...

I'd be suspecting this is the issue. I had a similar problem with a different product once. Got to a thick goo consistency and at over a month out, had still not dried.

Ron, I've had a look at the groundwork for my Celts. As you know it's exposed (see into) on three sides and these are glass hard, the top surface however has a soft skin coating so I'm going to carefully 'run' clear varnish across the top. I'll do this in a controlled layering way to create small ripples. Essentially I'll do them a 'wave' at a time letting each dry before applying the other. I'll let you know how I get on and bring it along to our next meet.
D.
BTW don't you listen to what people are saying about the 'burd' (sorry for posting the photo but Carl seemed keen to know) I'm just pleased you're showing an interest in a species with two legs. ;)

First thin coat of varnish (Humbrol Gloss) applied and no obvious reaction with the resin, I'll do another couple and then do the ripples, assuming there's no disaster.

*puts fingers in ears and waits for the inevitable bang as Del's base spontaneously combusts*
So I shouldn't be sitting on it to speed up the drying then? Mind you it might be the most exciting thing thats happened below the equator in a while;)
Actually so far so good and still clear, if anything it gives a bit of a 'sparkle' to the lightly tinted solid water.

Looking at Halfords it looks like they no longer do the clear resin but Ebay would probably bring up something just ensure you get hardner (hur hur) as well
