I'd heard of this incident and had always imagined a UK size hare, so thought the one modelled was far too large.... then I saw Vladimir's photo.

If his horse had bolted he could have ridden the hare instead.

Well, we do have hares in the UK and I know the difference between them. I used to see them occasionally (both in the wild and hung up outside the game butchers), but never before seen one as large as in your photo.
