I always liked Johnny Cope even it is about some damn unsporting Highland types not playing fair and cheating their rightful masters the English :shifty:

...... You may take our lives .........but you'll never take our Barnett Formula madstomp.gif

Guys if i've upset someone I'm really sorry it was meant to be just a pun on a wooden boar playing pipes.
I'll stick to army and pipes in future.
All I know about matelots is they don't do drill properly in case
they stamp too hard and damage the welds and pop a caulk, and by god can they drink !
My favourite pipe tunes are:
79th farewell to gibralter, the march of the cameron men, glendrual highlanders and highland cathedral.
All available on you tube for culture vultures.
Caber feidh!
Cuidich n righ!

So, maybe not my friend!

Iknow you love your movies, I'm trying to find a clip of my dad in a movie with alan ladd !
Again featurung the pipes.

Sorry Old Taff, the correct quote from 'the Longest day' is 'Millan, 'Blue Bonnets' and thats where it goes wrong as the sountrack gives us Black Bear.

Paul peedee, probably the reason they got it right in 'Tunes of Glory', one of my favourite films by the way, is that the band was actually the band of the London Scottish

Peedee, no offence taken mate, we all enjoy a bit of inter service banter, dont we? And as Roger says, some things are better explained over a pint. Trouble with writing it out on an open forum, is no one sees the twinkle in the eye, or the wry smile, or to realise sometimes it is just a friendly Wind Up.

Aye tom, and I was looking for the worst war film; Alan Ladd in Red beret as pete guessed.
At the end, as he's dying he hears the pipes and the liverpool scottish come past !
There's no clips of it though
My dad said he was in it, and that part of the film was made in sennybridge.
Good substitute for north africa eh ha ha

Yes Tom, it's an overdub. As he squeezes the pipebag to play,
You can actually hear the sound edit, they just cut and pasted it over all three scenes.

Most of the Pipers I ever met in The Queens Own Highlanders, Singapore 61-63 were from London. Sounded strange to hear a bloke in full Highland regalia talking like a Cockney.

I did realise that Brian, but Cockneys in a Highland Regt playing bagpipes ????????? What is that all about? You would think that they could recruit enough Scots lads to fill the posts.
