Bartolomeo d'Alviano was an Italian condottiero who lived between the XV and XVI century who distinguished himself in the service of the republic of Venice in the wars against the Holy Roman Empire. Involved in all the major battles in northern Italy between 1503 and 1515, he died in the siege of Brescia in this last year. His personal insegna was a unicorn, reported on a flag then lost in combat in Vicenza. The figure should represent his standard bearer holding the flag with the unicorn. Here the very beginning of a 54mm conversion from a venetian halberdier scupted by Vincenzo, just head and first work on the armor. Criticism and suggestions are very welcome.

You and Vincenzo have really decided to blow my mind. Each subject is better than the one before. This period in history and Northern Italy with its armourers, condottieri etc is an absoloute favourite of mine.I already love this and I cannot wait to see it finished.

Some little progress.
The personal insegna of Bartolomeo d'Alviano (or Liviano) was an Unicorn with the motto "VENENA PELLO".
This insegna was reported in a book of Battista Pittoni, painter from Vicenza, edited in 1566 in which are collected the emprises of major people of that time.

In the medieval tradition the spiral horn is said Alicorno, and was credited with the ability to neutralize poisons. This virtue was derived from reports of Ctesias on the unicorn in India, where it would be used by the local rulers to manufacture cups capable of making poisons harmless. So we came to the motto "VENENA PELLO" that translated from latin means "to pursuit poisons".
This motto is often associated to Unicorn. To study the representation of Unicorn in middleage era there are a lot o tapestry or painting showing how medieval people immagine it.

Based on the book's illustration a friend on mine and expert of reinassance period , Massimo Predonzani, recostructed how the standard should appear.

so, starting from this recostruction as well as from medieval images of Unicorn I started to work on the standard. Just little work to place figure and fix the spaces on the flag.
