I used basic twice for a reason, I have trouble making aves into balls :) I would like to sculpt a 120mm scabbard as my resin one is bent. (the previous sentences sound kind of rude!). I am thinking of cutting below the molded straps on the scabbard and sculpting the lower 2/3 any suggestions?

I know exactly what you mean...I have days when all I end up with is balls and snakes....seriously though, if there is no chance of warming the resin to re-shape it, then you can go ahead and cut off the offending lower section, drill a small hole in the upper portion and insert a length of paper clip wire or similar (you can flatten it if the scabbard is not very thick)...use this as an armature to support a little putty, form a rough shape with the first application, clean up when it's cured, then you can add some more putty to this, smoothing as it cures to get the correct curve and shape. You can always finish off with some wet & dry, steel wool or a scalpel blade...and I bet you'll surprise yourself..if you're not keen to try the putty, you can always shape a piece of plasticard to replace the lower section of the scabbard....but I would go with the putty...it's more fun.. ;)

All the best...Roy.

EDIT...sorry Gary....that just showsyou how long it takes me to type something.. :)

hi godfather, i'm new here but if i want perfect 'balls', i use either glass beads or those round fishing weights that you crimp on to the line, you know the ballbearing ones in various sizes. i got a whole pot of them.

what type of scabard are you forming? the guy who helped teach me used to say that there's more metal in a figure than putty! so i sculpt half the shape on to thin alli like a beer can(mmmm, bbeeer!) cure under a lamp, then cut it out and do the other side and cure again- finally sanding it to finish.

was that any of any help?

all the best ==timo
