Mike Blank has kindly provided me with some photos of his Best of Show diorama from the recent MFCA competion.

Some of you were lucky enough to see this piece in the flesh, but for those who didn't (like me), here it is:

I thinks whats great is each figure could be viewed as a single piece, yet together they create a stunning piece!

Incredible work...
I talked with Mike about his presentation and it's amazing how his mind works...he looks at things not only from a position of what is pleasing to view, but also works in his composition color schemes that directs the viewers eye from the center outward...
Can't wait to get his book...his is certainly a master piece!

Hope all is well Gary, and Rob...

By the way, Gary, I might need some help on a sculpting thingy, can I shoot you a note at the house?

It was magnificent to view. In my opinion Mike's best piece to date.

Each figure was a character, with distinct look, feeling and emotion. To Patrick's point, the colors he used magnified the effect. Most were subtle earthtones but radiating out from the center is the woman in pink which throws all of the other colors off and gives the entire piece astrong sense of balance.

Magnificent even if Mike can't play pool.

I'm glad people are sharing their thoughts on Mike's composition re: the use of color to obtain a sense of balance. Just by comparing these notes with the pictures is teaching me a lot - thanks, dudes!

Lou: hey, Mike's gotten really good at pool. The one we should look out for is Diego Ruina!
