Hello to you all,

I recently purchased Don Troiani's Civil War which is a great book fill with magnificient painting of the American Civil War. I was wondering if you could guide me toward similar artists but for the Napoleonic Wars.

Thank you!

Mathieu, Historical artist Keith Rocco will be coming out with a book of his Napoleonic art. He has already released two books of his Civil War art and this will be a great addition to the others.~Gary

PS, They are taking pre-orders for the book and it will cost $135.00 (US). After publication the price will be $185.00 (US)! As much as I love his work it's a safe bet I'll be passing on this book, I'm sure I won't be alone.

Thanks garyjd

Seems pretty nice but pretty expensive... I am sure the book is worth it, leather bound and everything but still... if anyone as more reasonable proposition it would be appreciated... ;)

Holy smokes! That's going to be an excellent book. I don't even care one whit about Napoleonics, and I can see the temptation to buy. It'd be worth the trouble to download the sample plates.

Seems nice but too expensive to mee. And with all respect, Keith Rocco seems to be great painter but that swidish jäger looks very odd to me. Question is how much more there's errors.

Cheers Mikko

also you can find the artwork of monsieur Courcelle to your liking - he has been painting plates for Osprey Napoleonic troops - I got one book with his art and I find it to be quite good

also could take a look at this Polish site http://www.poniatowski.org.pl/galeria/index.php
devoted to the recreation of the Duchy of Warsaw army - could find there some works of early 20th century artists: colonel Bronislaw Gembarzewski (who still is the preeminent historian on the Polish militarty uniform from 10th century until 1831 - produced hundreds of plates on the subject but most of them were burnt by the Germans when they anihilated the city of Warsaw after the 1944 Rising - accidentally here you can get the reprint of one of his works http://wysylkowa.pl/ks428153.html) and Jan Chelminski (I think the uniformology carried his book a while back) and modern painter Ryszard Morawski - who illustrated three books on the Dutchy of Warsaw army - the Generals the Cavalry and Artillery - eg http://www.pelta.com.pl/wydawnictwo.htm

he also ilustrated the modern reprint of count Tyszkiewicz 19th century work on the Lithuanian cavalry 1812-14 http://www.armagedonbooks.tgw.com.pl/?p=pr...More&iProduct=8

ps
Colonel Gembarzewski's book on the the Duchy of Warsaw army and his plate book (from 1960 as it was recreated from the 1942 microfilms for the original watercolors were destroyed in 1944) are the best so far on the subject - originally published almost a century ago!
He was also the groundbreaking author on the Polish Winged Hussars - his 1939 book-lenght article has been reprinted recently (1999) in Poland - and his plates (published in 1960s from the microfilms) are available from time to time at some Polish auction houses - I got both books :)
