I have always went with these two distinctions concerning the difference between the two categories, a diorama tells a story and a vignette does not rely on a story but has more emphasis to the figures and base as they are presented. Although this does relate to the battle of Nery and the historic actions that took place, IMO, it doesn't tell a story by itself. A diorama, when done properly, will give the viewer a story and it should be clear to the viewer relatively quickly. This should have been in the vignette category regardless of the amount of figures it has, but again, it's all up to the individual show's rules.

Thanks for the opinions guys, please don't get the wrong impression that I am not happy as I was against some great dioramas, so was under no illusions of grandeur,
as I don't usually enter competitions. I am a great believer if you put your head above the parapet, expect to get shot at occasionally :)
So another piece (nearly) finished...So the new piece is the Life miniatures RAF pilot, here we go again....

Mark

Well guys, after the Gentleman John Bowery sent me a dead horse, I had to add it to the diorama (or is that a vignette?o_O).
I have got the horse into base colours & have set it in place on the base, how's it look to you guys?
I will finalise the position & get the highs & lows done on the horse to blend it in with the rest.
Thanks again John, it's a great addition...(y)

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen, makes it worthwhile to change things around :)
So now I will pull the horse off the base & play with the shadows & highlights...o_O don't do many horsey things...this should be interesting...

Hi All,
I had the pleasure of seeing this at Huddersfield and Mark has done a superb job(y) .
Hi Mark,
Glad the grass for the base has done the job for you. I think John's gift to you of the horse and his comment of "adding another dimension" has hit the nail right on the head. Get cracking mate, needs to be ready for the S & L;) .
cheers
