Expanding out a bit from my early American history period, I painted this small 36mm vignette from Oniria Miniatures representing a scene from the Battle of Tetuan during the Spanish-Moroccan war.

In Oniria's standard scale of 36mm, the figures and horses were full of detail and a joy to paint.

As a fyi on my approach, except for one horse the other figures do not come on their own base. While it might be possible to pin the legs, it can be difficult to drill without doing damage because of the small size, at least for me. Therefore, I create my own small irregular bases from plastic card and glue the figures to them. For mounting to my groundwork, I create the groundwork using Magic Sculpt and press the bases into the clay to mark their position. After painting I place the figures into their positions and use a bit of fine sand to blend them into the groundwork.

All painting was done with acrylics. The groundwork and Cacti were made with Magic Sculpt.

A fun project!!!

Thanks for looking,
Ken

Super vignette Ken. These are really beautiful little figures and as you say a joy to paint.I am currently working on Oniria’s Gandamak vignette and have like you built a base of Magic Sculpt for the figures. Like you say they are too small to drill and pin, so I might take your lead and make small individual bases out of plastic card to support them whilst painting.
Cheers

Lovely work. Oniria do some fine figures and you have done a fantastic job on these.

A little beauty Ken, well done.

Many thanks Nigel, Bob and Billy! Looking forward to your work on the Gandamak figures Billy. I also have it on my wish list of to do items.

I don't go that small (1/35 is my limit, and even that's only when combined with armour) but this is very nice. I often think that small sizes like 36mm and 28mm can look a bit odd and unnatural, but these figures are well proportioned.

Thanks Steve! The fact they are so well proportioned is why I do so many of Onirias sets. Over the last few years I have been attracted to multiple figure vignettes and this has led me to 1/35 and 36mm figures as the most reasonable choice. :)
