Older son and I will be taking the tour tomorrow, April 13. We've toured her topside in the past but never toured her while she's in dry dock for a major overhaul. USS New Jersey (BB-62) is the most decorated battleship in Navy history, earning distinction in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and conflicts in the Middle East.

I still have not ever visited the New Jersey. Our Delaware Valley Scale Modelers has participated in modeling events staged onboard, in connection with a local ship modeling club. But I wasn't available. But she's on our excursion list for the MFCA, and eventually I'll get there.

A quick pic of the New Jersey in dry dock. She's unbelievably huge, over 3 american football fields long, weighing over 37,000 tons before fuel and ammo. And in today's day and age she'd cost $3 billion to build. Btw that dry dock is 50 feet deep.... with a 100+ step staircase to climb on your way out. Enough to make an old man huff and puff!

Wearing helmets and steel-toed shoes might seem futile under a 37,000-ton structure, but safety protocols are crucial. Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared in potentially hazardous environments. best gyro
