I got a private message from the 'Forum Administrator', implying that he had send many messages (To Me? To everybody? To the interweb??) , but had no reply. Basicaly, it was a begging letter asking me to become a donating member, and offering a ready clickable link to become a donating member for $9.99.

A few issues....

I am well aware of the cost of running a site like this. This is not my first rodeo. I am also aware that that is why sites have adverts.

If you want to ask me to contribute, ask me, and let me decide how much I can or want to contribute. Don't 'suggest' an amount, and certainly don't do so with a clickable link. I don't trust 'clickable' links (and I urge others not to either), and when I start getting messages like that from the 'forum administrator', when I never had a message from him before, I get suspicious...
And if you ask me to contribute, and urge me to be part of, and sustain this comunity, at least try to make me feel included, and use my name...

I took the bait
And as long time member was Ok with special offer if $US9.99 for Annual Membership - unfortunately special did not get apply & wore full price charge to my Credit Card.
I’ve asked Alan (Tech Admin) to sort it out. Trust experience goes well for others.

Interesting Mike... So are you saying that they took more money than you agreed to? I did not look into the details, but if you are saying that they offered a special deal, but took more money from your card, that is fraud.

As an aside, I have now received a second message, from 'Alan', which I will quote here. I undertand that the site costs money, and asking members to donate some funds is fine, as long as it's done in a non passive agressive manner, or by offering additional benefits to paying members. Add some adverts by all means.

This comes across to me as a scam.

planetFigure | Miniatures Sincere Ask

Hey! I have a sincere ask ... we are trying to raise some funds here at planetFigure | Miniatures. Would you please upgrade to Supporting Membership? For the fund drive I have discounted it to only $9.99 for an entire year just to get some funds in. It would be really appreciated, I hope we've earned your investment and support in this community.

I have just noticed that the 'Tech Admin' joined the site on November 29....
I have only logged in on the site on my home computer the last two days, seeing as I work away, and most of my internetting is done on my phone. I was aware that there had been some changes with the server, host and layout, so I wonder if that is what this all about?

I got 2 emails form this 'tech admin'. I chose not to take the bait as this smelled as a scam to me.

Reading about the experience from Mike this feeling has only increased.
