hello everyone! have been reading everyones post for sometime now ,i am new to minature figure painting ( 54mm) for years i worked only on plastic model kits and now want to start with minatures which i was always fearful to try . soon i will post some pics of my first figure , and would welcome any thoughts and criticism , but now my question is what does everyone basically use to build up there groundwork on there wooded base , i was told durhams works well , and also do you build it right on top of the wood , for a rock type of groundwork i have some thoughts of using natural rock and or hydrocal rock molds and then painting . any helpful hints would be great . thank you so much jimmy

Some suggestions

Hi Jimmy,

I would think most types of self hardening clay, papiermache would work well. I do suggest that you score the top surface of the base to allow the material to adhere better to the base. Sometimes for larger bases, you may wish to put in a few nails for better anchorage.

Wrap the base with plastic or newspaper for protection before you apply and the material.

Guy,
Thanks for the refresher. I'd printed these out some time back, but it was good to read them again.
But when's part 3 coming my friend? ;-)
