Well, I picked one of these up from Marco over at Bestsoldiers and what a handy little gizmo! This is a new wet palette he is marketing. The palette itself is the size of a standard petri dish (you know, the thing they make cultures in at the lab!). The dish is plastic, nice and sturdy and won't break with all but the most sever punishment. Inside you'll find a nice round fitted sponge, pre-cut papers for wetting, and clear instructions. This is a highly innovative and useful product! I've included a scan of the instructions, and several pics of the contents. This is the perfect size for your painting table as it won't take up too much real-estate, but is big enough for whatever you want to mix up. This should keep your acrylic paints wet for several days, and if you store the dish in your fridge, they might last even longer! And the smaller size doesn't mean you'll lose any beer-storage space in your fridge!! LOL! Contact Marco over at BestSoldiers and he can shoot one right out to you!

Wet Pallette

Hi guys ,
Marco sent one of these to El Greco Miniatures who gave it to me to try out , this I have been doing constantly since Figureworld with the following being my thoughts :

Size : nice and compact , ideal for the carrying in the workbox

Durability : Strong hard clear plastic with a secure lid (I infact had mine loose and tip up and nothing leaked out ...bargain !!!)

Application: Primarly design for Acrylics but I also tried Artisan Water Soluble Oils by W & N, no problems even with acrylics on the same paper, I also tried my blending fluid on it as well with no issues .

Use : Simply fully soak the sponge I also wet the paper slightly (force of habit really as this is what I do for my other larger version I use at home) and away you go !!!!

Flexibility: After I had finished my trial my wife , an artist , used it for a more less than delicate task , using Chroma colour ...she was happy with the results ..so it works for all .

Effectivity : Colours remained useable throughout the trial period and still remain so with the sponge retaining the water very well ., (the paper did dry out a little in the heat of the sun but this happens with larger versions as well ...this was cured by simply leaving the lid on overnight and the paper absorbed accordingly ..refreshing the acrylics easily so I could use them).

What do you get in the box: Packed in a clear box containing the actual wet pallette container, with 1 sponge and spare papers together with a instruction sheet , size of acttual WP is 90mm across.

Conclusion:

A nice addition to the workbench and ideal for shows where you are demonstrating due to the size , this has the effect of limiting the amount of colour you waste if using a larger WP , easy to use , secure and well made .

I would like to see spare sponges and papers available , according to Celine at El Greco it should retail at approx the 10 euro's (this is not a confirmed price)

I certainly will get another as a spare and my wife has shown it to her artist groups who were also impressed as its ideal for field trips .
