Just a note of caution, and it's now obvious to me but beware when using F&F on PayPal to pay for goods to avoid the normal charges. Unless you have dealt with someone previously or know they have a good reputation I would advise taking the small PayPal charge.

After many years of faultless transactions with many members around the world on the form I recently purchased a Romeo Samnite bust kit from a new member (who seems to have joined primarily to sell kits) when the kit arrived it was packaged dreadfully with no protection just in a thin envelope. Those of you who are aware of the kit will know it is just in a grip top bag despite its size, weight, mixed resin and metal and its cost. In transit the parts rubbed together weakening the massive 9 cm shield and I assume it was dropped or roughly handled as the shield snapped in 2 and was beyond repair. If you are unfamiliar with the kit Tarracus posted a beautifully rendered one back in 13 on the forum.

This Incident prompted Nap's post re packaging a couple of weeks back.

I immediately contacted the seller with photos who asked me to try and repair it which I spent a weekend doing but without getting it to an acceptable standard. I advised that I would have to purchase a new one and would like reimbursement. This I duly did for 19 Euros. Although the new one wasn't much better being badly warped and misshapen but after a weeks work it looks like it is going to be OK. Although I can't say I can endorse Romeos customer service.

The seller is refusing to reimburse me as he claims it is not his fault, and is also now inferring that I may have broken it. After advice from Nap I approached PayPal who informed me because the purchase was made as F&F I had no rights to the PayPal buyer protection scheme.

I just thought it good practice to make the forum members aware.

Hi,
A lot of food for thought on the above thread.
most alarming in my mind is the attitude of the Seller.

Would they like to comment.???????????????

Did you receive the part from Romeos free of charge or did you have to pay.
IF it was free that might account for their attitude having to clear up someone else's mess.

With regard to PP we have been warned. You dont normally have to raise a dispute with friends & family.

Thanks for the heads up.
Mick

Hi Mick

I had to pay, hence the request for reimbursement to the seller. 10 Euros for the shield and 9 for shipping. To be honest my first experience of Romeo too wasn't great as compared to the customer service I have experienced from the likes of Stormtroopers, Mitches, SK etc which has always been first class.

Not really about the cost to be honest more of a warning to other members.

Cheers

Neil

Hi Folks

The packaging isn't the best to say the least on this but from a PF viewpoint in any issues

Any concerns with purchases is to be sorted out by those concerned using the PM facility or private e mail.

I know Britmodeller don't allow requests for F&F payments on their trading forum for that very reason, and the mods are ruthless at deleting threads containing such requests.

As a seller I have in the past offered the option of F&F, or asked the buyer to add a couple of quid to cover the fee if he wants a goods & services trade for security.

As a buyer I'm happy to make F&F payment to guys I know personally, but have also myself added a bit extra unsolicited and done it as goods & services for my own peace of mind when buying off folks I don't know who had requested F&F.

They've always been OK with that, and touch wood I've never had any problems to date.

Guys who can't be arsed spending a few minutes to pack a model properly for transit deserve to be named & shamed.

Perhaps two prices (F&F and not F&F) for the buyers choice?

Having just recently bought from two esteemed PF members and paid through the F&F option I am glad I did not have to open my package and find myself before such a surprise. Both the people I bought from took extraordinary precautions in order for my orders to arrive safe and sound and I thank them immensely for that (both are named Paul incidentally).I think the seller in this case should definitely try to compensate you one way or another.

Oda.

Very good point. I'm sorry you had to go through all this hassle.

It's nice to avoid the extra fee with the F&F option, but it does put the buyer at risk. Best to keep that for people you know and trust or, if you're willing, people on this forum with an established good reputation.
