Hi,

I start to paint Alexandres Mirmillon, My intention has been to paint a black skin. but I think I have been too dark.

It is painted with oils, any suggestions for lighting, or I have to repaint again?

Some photos.

Well some skin is extremely dark, much darker than this: around the colour of plain chocolate. My reservation would be that the facial features don't match the skin colour.

The face is not a problem because the figure wears a helmet that covers it. I don't know if it would be possible to apply a diluted coat color to brighten the set, and then resubmit the highlights.

Good choice :) David, before you think of repainting may I suggest another photo with a more neutral background colour? The skin tones are hard to read, and may look just fine, the photos we see now are bright and washed out making it difficult to really see.

Okey, I tried to make a more good photos with best light. This is donen with only a focus.

thanks.

As far as "darkness" goes, this version looks fine. There is as much variance with black skin as there is with "white" skin, maybe more. There is Jackie Robinson black skin and Halle Berry black skin.
These may be a poor examples for non-Americans, but most people would know Halle Berry. Men, anyway.

I suggest you adding purple to the chocolate brown and a dash of white.
Apply it without thinning the paint, as a film over the previous colors.

Now of course, I'm talking about painting with oil.

Ah, okay then no problem.

It would be very difficult to lighten this uniformly without an airbrush. I think you're looking at a complete repaint or working with what you've painted so far; it's well within the range of human skin, you could easily just highlight what you have.
