Hi
To those who asked .I use oils on top of an enamel undercoat and my flesh mix on the bust was yellow ochre, burnt sienna ,titanium white with a touch of brown madder to kill that orange look .I've known people to add a touch of blue instead of the brown madder just so you don't get that orangey look (burnt sienna's downside) This bust was painted some 5 yrs ago and since i've got a digital camera for the first time i'm taking shots of everything that doesn't move.
I now use a mix of gold ochre ,madder brown ( cheap Rowney type ) and tit white
and get a reasonable face done and then when dry my favourite part is using wet on dry which is where i can bring more life into the face
The eyes on the bust were painted using a slightly off white colour but don't worry if it's too white a wash of a brown oil colour when youv'e finished the eyes will take care of that when it's all dry.Black iris and then burnt umber & yellow ochre for the coloured part of the eye leaving a black outline around the the iris when dry a black dot in the middle and when totally dry a small catchlight between the iris and the pupil which will bring the eyes to life For a wee bit more life i add a tiny touch of madder brown or aluzarin crimson thinned down to a watery consistancy and then adding it to the corners of the eye socket on top of the white but keep this under control and use minute amounts as it will discolour the whites of the eyes so you only want it in the corners
