As some of you may be aware,I recently posted up a finished bust I did of Colonel Nicholson from the epic war movie Bridge on the River Kwai,as I stated I was planning a backdrop for this piece, which is now finished.
This was a very emotional piece for me to paint as it was my late fathers favourite war film,as a kid born in 1960 I grew up watching it most Xmas days, that’s when it always seemed to be on,my first memory of the film was the Col Bogey whistling marching into the camp, that image has stayed with me all my life.
I now have a special display case for it,and it’s a lovely memory of my dad.
Gordon Mitchell did the piece, and it was a complete no brainier for me to get it,I spoke to Gordon about a possible Col Saito, but there is no plans for this,I thought a Saito together with Nicholson woukd have been great.
The bust is readily available from Gordon should anyone be interested,it was a lovely piece to paint and it just cried out for some sort of backdrop.
I thought as an extra touch I would add the detonator cable at the front which was part of the climax to the film.
I hope you like it,backdrops are not everyone’s cup of tea which I understand but I’ve always loved scenic model making and dioramas,so it helps me keep my hand in that department.
The water was created using the excellent water materials from AK.
many thanks for looking
