British Airborne WWII helmet chin strap

I am currently working on the amazing figure of Larry Ansell which was sculpted by Moz, what I need help with is, what was the chin strap on the helmet made from, Leather (if so what colour ?) or was it made from the same material as the webbing ?. I want to get it right to do the figure justice, this weekend I am intending on starting work on the Dennison Smock once the head is completed.

Could be either depending on the "Mk" of helmet.

Generally Mk1's were Black leather strap, Mk2's had a Webbing strap... But it's not unknown for the Mk2 to have the leather strap.

The strap fitment will probably give you the best clue.

Thanks pte1643, I have decided that the leather chin strap would look better than the webbing one, probably take a couple of hours longer but I think the end result will be well worth the effort. Once again thank you.
