Hi there

Certainly looks like a detailed piece , here's the picture from the link ..some nice figures there IMG_0628.PNG

Thanks for sharing this , if I may suggest the coat should be red and a band around the cap here's a similar figure

Nap, hi there! Thanks.
As for the uniform not at all. I've studied lot of books (Osprey espesialy) and they were black. Than was an option)

This looks like an officer of a line infantry regiment to me, grenadier company (see badge on cap). My first reaction on reading about a black uniform was that it could be the Rifle Brigade, whose green uniform was very dark that it could be mistaken for black, but the cap badge and other unifprm details rule this out.

Am not sure what the Osprey pictures are intended to show. Here, figures 1 and 3 are clearly wearing greatcoats over their uniforms, picture 2 of the bugler of the DLI is the one that should guide us for this figure.

I think, therefore, that Nap's original advice regarding a red tunic is correct. The trousers should be dark blue. The over-jacket looks like a piece of personal kit, possibly this officer had previously been in India and had bought it locally.

Hi there

Thanks for picture , underneath would be a red/scarlet jkt with a yellow collar which was the facings for the 95th at this time ( reference Crimean Uniforms Infantry by Michael Barthorp ....other Regts were different facings )

These might help feel free to PM me if you wish

Can't agree with you at all. Because you simply forget - than is winter uniform. And as for coat - they used all possible cloth to keep warm) And about Osprey - why are you doubting in them I simply don't understand) That's odd)))

NapLike I sad - there were difrent types of uniform) Not only collars) And you can't argue with that)))

Uniforms were adapted to allow for conditions , it was also cold in the summer at night ....if I may look at the figure it's a red jkt he wears under the greatcoat ......Osprey do make mistakes in some facts , my ref by Mr Barthorp is a recognised expert .

As I said all regts had different facings my comments are based on my extremely large selection of references ......

...PF as a forum is well known for its members having a extensive references available and are only too happy to share

...but it's your figure and it's nice to see you posting , look forward to next

I am not doubting Osprey at all. The point that I was trying to make was that I didn't see how the figures illustrated supported your argument for a black uniform, when clearly none of them are wearing one. I am no expert but I can not think of any examples of British troops wearing a black uniform in any period, although I am happy to be proved wrong on this. Napoleonic Brunswick troops wore black, and there are also the various Death Hussars which were popular for a while. In more recent times, black was widely used in uniforms for tank troops. British troops did often wear very dark colours (blue, green, grey) which in certain conditions could appear to be black, but not black itself, as far as I know.

As Nap says, the important thing is to enjoy the hobby. My comments were intended to be helpful

It's just occurred to me that this figure is very reminiscent of painting and figures of Captain Souter at the last stand at Gandamak in 1842.
